We’re about to enter into the happiest times of the year! Christmas! I love Christmas, it has always been my favorite time of the year and I love the rush, rush, rush of the season!

But that creates a problem with us business owners, right? We are losing focus, we are easily distracted and our writing and business development may come to a slow halt.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

2017 is right around the corner and as a business owner, coach and writer, you need to get prepared and set for the New Year with your new goals. If you’re writing your book for the National Novel Writing Month, then you may not be done yet. And that’s okay. I want to show you three ways to stay on track and to begin planning your writing goals for the rest of the year.

Write it down.

I literally cannot say this enough – you want to put your writing inside of your calendar. Act as if it’s an appointment that you must keep! Write it into your to-do list and spend how much time you’ve given yourself to write.

I am rewriting my book right now and this is something I am about to implement for the month of December. I know how crazy and distracted I get and I know I must put it into my to-do list and planner in order to get myself writing and staying on track.

Block it off.

Okay, so you’ve blocked out time for your writing, but what about figuring out your 2017 writing goals?

I say: block out time.

Last week, I put on my calendar: 3-4:30pm – Plan out first quarter. I stopped working about 3pm on Wednesday and I gather my stuff up and I planned out my first quarter of 2017.

It did take longer than an hour and a half, but it feels good to know that my marketing and content calendar is all in place for the new year. And if you block out time to really focus on writing and planning, you can have your book out in nothing flat!

Hold Yourself Accountable.

This has to be the toughest part of writing your book or even your content calendar. Holding yourself accountable is crucial because if you don’t, then who will?

If you need help to keep yourself accountable, especially through this crazy time of year, then ask a business buddy to hold you accountable and set dates and times to chat with them about your goals for the week. If you need to, have punishments in place. Perhaps it is giving your accountability buddy $5 for every goal you didn’t reach. That will make you want to reach your goals faster and on schedule!

If one of your goals were to write a book, I want to give you a free gift that will help you not only finish your book, but also give you the momentum to get it done at an incredible fast rate!
