It’s October, the official month to begin drinking and eating Pumpkin Spice EVERYTHING! I am not a Pumpkin Spice person, so the more power to you! For the next two months, I am going to talk about how adding a book in your life can make a serious impact in your business if you know how to leverage it right! Did you know that 81% of Americans want to write a book, but many don’t ever do it! What the heck? Why aren’t they?!
If you’ve been feeling that you have a book inside of you and you don’t know what to write about or that you are consume by other things, so you don’t create time for your book, then you should stick around because this month is all about Spicing It Up with a Book! This month, I will be talking about why you should write a book, what you should write about, and overcoming some serious fears around book writing. AND on top of all of this, I am going to be having a BIG announcement in November that has everything to do with book writing, so you don’t want to miss that!
To start this month out right, I want to introduce you to my author friend, Anastasia Button, Millennial Coach and author of her upcoming book, #NewJobNewLife! I interviewed her to kick this month off as a way to encourage you to step into curiosity and explore what could happen if you got over your fears and sat down and take action!
So Anastasia, what made you want to write a book?
Honestly, I have always wanted to write a book (like most of the world’s population) but I was unsure what to write about! It was not until I found my life’s purpose that I wanted to get my message out so badly. My purpose in life and career is to to help others find their purpose in life so that they can leverage their purpose to find a fulfilling career opportunities that can support their dream life. After finding that purpose, writing the book became a mission.
How did you come up with your book idea?
My message that is attached to my authentic purpose in life is what I wanted to write about but I was unsure about which audience I wanted to focus on. Many authors write passion books but I really wanted this to be a business book that helped people. So, I asked my mentor and publisher, Gerry Robert with Black Card Books and he helped me find my focus on Millennials.
Talk to us about the writing process.
I wrote my book in 27 hours. Yup, that’s right! My publisher had a really cool method of breaking down a book, much like what Monica Miller does in her coaching come to find out. I took a 3-day weekend up in the mountains, snagged a hotel room and stayed there with a box of red wine and pitchers of coffee and just wrote. I had prepared a detailed outline and quotes from sources and interviews prior to that which were with me as notes; however, it only took me 8-9 hours each day and in less then 3 days I was done – just in time to check out of my hotel.
You are running a business, writing a book, have personal time, network, go to Toastmaster, whew! How did you manage your time?!
I do this AMAZING time management system called Time Blocking. On Friday, I time block my next week with activities, meetings, and especially tasks. We schedule everything but we tend to forget the tasks. If you are wanting to write a book, work on a book, do interviews or research you need to make time for them. I usually do 30-minute to 1-hour time blocks for all my tasks and meetings. This keeps me on track and I know what I have to do for the day. This also helps me to not get distracted by other tasks I know I must get done, like emails, because I have them scheduled at another time.
What has your book done for you and your business so far?
I don’t know if I would have a business if I didn’t have this book! When you become an author everyone gravitates to you. You no longer become the coach, the speaker or trainer you become the author first! Everything I have says ‘author’ first: my business cards, social media pages, website, etc. People trust authors more than they trust doctors – Google it! So when people ask what you do you reply with, “I am a business author.” Just see the looks on their face and how the energy changes. Becoming an author is about helping other people or to get your message out to the world, or both(!), but it is hard to make a large impact on a dime rather than a wad of cash.
Since I mentioned that I am an ‘upcoming author’, I have tripled my earnings, traveled internationally to speak, more people call me about my business than ever before and I gain credibility almost instantly (so clientele is rather simple to obtain).
Before you go, what words of encouragement do you have for other business owners who want to write a book but may feel hesitant to do so?
You have this authentic person inside yourself. That authentic person has an authentic message attached to them and it is just nagging to get out! However, even though you can literally feel this authentic person, this mission inside yourself, you ignore it. We all have. When will it be the time that you accept that authentic person, that authentic message and that authentic purpose in your life to be unleashed to the world and grab everything it has to offer? When? If the answer is not today than I feel comfortable to bet money that it won’t happen. Rough statement but a true one at that! The world wants the authentic you and wants to see and feel your authentic purpose. Stop wasting time and give it to them! Give it to them as you go to Starbucks. Give it to them in your upcoming book. Give it to them when you drive home from work. The world is waiting for your authenticity to shine out into the world so deliver and get your book out there!

More about Anastasia Button
As a Millennial herself, Anastasia Button knows all about the stresses of a volatile global economy and uncertain job market. After graduating from college, she barely used her Bachelor’s degree in history and tried out multiple occupations, none of which truly fit her. She worked as a front desk librarian, an archaeology technician, a roofing contractor, and a night manager for a liquor super store. Anastasia felt the pain of working one undesirable job after another, and the disappointment of what the world has to offer when lifestyle is compromised because there is no “career.”
After many years of feeling unhappy and unable to make the right decisions, she was days away from starting graduate school in archaeology overseas, when she thought, “There has to be a better and more authentic way to get what I want.”
Deciding to take her life into her own hands, Anastasia began working at showing others how they can have what they want in life and a career that they won’t want to retire from. She found her true passions not by doing the traditional “find a job that pays,” but a new way — the Millennial way. By focusing on what she wanted in life itself, instead of the job, she fueled a career that is her true passion and supports her dream life. Through her speaking, coaching, and writing, she now helps others find their passion and build their dreams, lifestyle and income.
Today, Anastasia helps Millennials gain freedom, independence, direction, better income, and more excitement from life and career. She personally coaches and speaks to Millennials and like-minded groups who desire change and want freedom, independence and a kick-ass lifestyle.
