Have you read a blog post and wondered why the author even began to share his or her content with the world? Or you read a blog and wondered what the person expertise really is.
Before you even write one blog post, you need to ensure your blog is serving a purpose so that your message is targeted and unwavering. You don’t want people who come to your blog scratching their heads, wondering what your blog is all about.
You want it to be crystal clear on what your blog is about, who it is for, and why that person needs to listen to you. If you don’t have that, then you may lose out on customers, leads, and credibility.
Ouch.
That is why you need to develop and consider what your blog purpose is all about. When someone comes to your site, they need to know if your post is for them or not.
For example, my blog’s purpose is to encourage female coaches, consultants, and speakers who want to share their message uniquely and to more of their target audience to gain more traction online and develop their digital footprint by sharing authentically. These women understand the power of content and want to use it inside of their business with strategy and build relationships with authority in their niche.
But these women are not sure how to:
- Get their message out into the world
- Generate traffic organically to their sites
- Write content effectively
- Present themselves as experts in their field, but don’t know how to go about doing that
My blog’s purpose is to encourage my audience to begin blogging by going deep into all the aspects of it. I write on topics about how to create ongoing content for their blog, how to craft a content calendar, how to develop voice and use email marketing to establishing themselves as the go-to expert online.
I love encouraging and helping female entrepreneurs in this way and that is why I do it; I see the struggle and I know I can bring the best out of my clients so they can showcase their brilliance through their content.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you begin to blog:
- What’s your purpose for your blog?
- Who do you want to help?
- How are you going to serve them through your posts?
- Why are you wanting to begin blogging?
Okay, now that you understand the importance of having a purpose to your blog, do you have all the other things set up? Like email subscription service to collect subscribers? Or a place to create awesome pictures for your blog (and content upgrades)? What about a tool to write catchy headlines?
